FOUNDERS AWARD PROGRAM
The annual Founders Award Program was established in 1956 as a tribute to the eight Philadelphia women who founded The Emergency Aid in 1914.
Awards are presented annually to girls in the ninth grade who attend Philadelphia area schools. Candidates are nominated by school counselors or community-based sponsors. They are selected by The Emergency Aid Founders Committee based on a written application, demonstrated leadership and good citizenship. Approximately twenty girls receive Founders’ Awards each year.

The unique aspect of the Founders Award Program is the mentoring provided by The Emergency Aid members. The Founders Committee offers several seminars annually for Founders’ girls on topics of particular interest and importance to teenage girls, such as: Preparing for College Interviews, Enhancing Self-Esteem and Developing Decision Making Skills. Organized service projects prepare Founders’ girls to become contributing members of their communities. |
