FOUNDERS AWARD PROGRAM

The annual Founders Award Program was established in 1956 as a tribute to the eight Philadelphia women who founded The Emergency Aid in 1914.

Awards are presented annually to girls in the ninth grade who attend high schools in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Candidates are nominated by school counselors/Principals or community-based sponsors based on their community service activities and leadership qualities. The Emergency Aid Founders Committee chooses 20 young women based on a written application, demonstrated leadership and good citizenship.

MENTORING PROGRAM
The Founders Committee offers several seminars annually for Founders' girls on topics of particular interest and importance to teenage girls, such as : Preparing for College Interviews, Enhancing Self-Esteem;Coping with Stress during High School and Developing Decision Making Skills. Organized service projects prepare Founders' girls to become contributing members of their communities.
All Scholarship recipients are paired with an EA member who mentors them throughout their college careers.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
For Founders Awardees Only
Since 1984, the Scholarship Program has awarded four-year college scholarships to 140 Founders Awardees from the Philadelphia and suburban area. Over $330,000 has been awarded to graduates of the region’s public, private and parochial high schools.

During their senior year of high school Founders Award recipients are invited to submit an application for a college scholarship to the Scholarship Committee. After careful review of the application and a personal interview, scholarship recipients are selected by the scholarship committee. Each year scholarship recipients represent EA on approximately twenty-five campuses across America.
